Who's doing your plumbing?

During November 2010, the Plumbing Industry Council launched its ‘who’s doing your plumbing?’ public awareness campaign informing consumers why it is important that only licensed plumbers and drainers are engaged to perform regulated work.

Plumbers, drainers and fire occupational licences

To undertake plumbing and drainage work, you must have a current Queensland licence or endorsements that authorise you to undertake the particular work. An application for a plumbers or drainers licence must be made to the Plumbing Industry Council.

Greywater use

Greywater may be used in sewered and unsewered areas for irrigating lawns and gardens. Treated greywater can be appropriately used for other purposes. Find out more about these changes.

Greywater Treatment Plants are approved by the department. The Queensland Plumbing and Wastewater Code provides the effluent quality criteria for each particular use.

On-site sewerage

On-site sewerage facilities are used for the treatment of domestic sewage on premises in unsewered areas. The department issues approvals to manufacturers of these facilities. Information for home owners and manufacturers can be found in this section.

Submetering

Submeters are required in any new premises drawing water from the water service provider for separate lots in any type of building under a community title scheme, including common property, and all rented or leased sole occupancy units in class 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 new buildings.

Amended plumbing and drainage forms 1 and 4

To simplify plumbing forms, forms 1 and 2 have been combined and Form 4 has been amended. Changes include amalgamating forms 1 and 2 removing unnecessary fields and adding information relating to the Distributor-Retailers. Also, Form 4 now has a field for a plumber to declare that a an electric resistance hot water system (EHWS) has been replaced with an existing EHWS due to a natural disaster and it clarifies section 7 to state the person/licensee completing and signing the Form 4 must be the person who undertook the work.

The amended mandatory forms 1 and 4 are available to download.
