Board for Urban Places Print E-mail

The Board for Urban Places is intended to champion high-quality urban design and help foster a holistic approach to land use and infrastructure planning to create vibrant and adaptable urban places for people in Queensland.

The board will provide general and project-specific advice on urban design, planning, architecture, landscape architecture, sustainability and built environment issues.

It is a non-statutory body and does not have any formal decision making role. It is intended solely as an advisory body.

The board meets up to six times a year and is chaired by the Queensland Government Architect, Mr Malcolm Middleton.

A Charter for Queensland Places

A Charter for Queensland Places is the board’s first publication. It is a guide intended for all Queenslanders who shape our environment and who seek to make, use or understand Queensland places.

Membership

Members are appointed for a fixed two-year term and consist of 23 specialists from disciplines such as architecture, urban design, planning, sustainability, social and cultural policy, economics and transport.

Members are remunerated in accordance with relevant Queensland Government policies. This includes travel allowances, sitting fees and sub-committee fees.

Membership rotates on a project-by-project basis, at the discretion of the chair, taking into consideration the issues to be discussed, and experience and skill sets required. Each board meeting will feature between 5 and 12 experts.
